PHOENIX DCIA SURGERY OVERVIEW
The surgeons at the Aesthetic and Restorative Breast Center are performing the most advanced breast reconstruction options available. In situations when a single deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap is not an option, we offer an extended DIEP in conjunction with a deep circumflex iliac artery perforator (DCIA) flap to add more volume to the reconstructed breast. The DCIA flap is in the same operative field as the DIEP, but uses the skin and fat of the love handles and above the hip bone. Our surgeons are able to fold and connect this flap to the DIEP flap for volume and shape restoration. Not only does this improve the breast reconstruction outcome, it also improves the patient’s waistline. When these flaps are performed in conjunction, there are no extra incisions made, therefore healing time is not prolonged. In certain patients where an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) has been performed, patients may still be candidates for the DCIA flap.
